ABOUT EL DORADO FIRST ASSEMBLY

Welcome!

El Dorado First Assembly of God

If you’re new to the area, new to church, or just looking for a new start, El Dorado First Assembly offers you the opportunity to build your faith in God and connect with new people.

We aren’t a church to just go through religious motions, we want to seek an encounter with Jesus through His Holy Spirit. We know Jesus brings healing and wholeness to our lives and fills us with the purposes He has for us. When you visit, you will find more than just friendly faces, a beautiful building and an uplifting service. We know that Jesus is here and anything is possible.

What to Expect at EFA

Our Sunday Morning worship service is a welcoming environment for you to come as you are. You will be warmly greeted by people who love visitors and long time members alike. A time of uplifting worship is followed by a relevent, powerful sermon to challenge your spirit and draw you closer to Christ.

Beyond the services, there are many ways for you to be involved. For a deeper look into God's Word, there is a Sunday School just for you! During the month, Home Groups give opportunity to get to know others in the church family. Check out opportunities that minister to your family and ways to get involved.

What about Kids?

Sunday School

In Sunday School, our kids are becoming Biblically fluent. They are challenged to find Scriptures in their Bible, to read what it says, and to apply the message to their personal lives. Through quality teaching, our kids grow deeper in their knowledge and understanding of the Bible.

Kids Church

Kids Church is a gathering together of all of our kids to worship and encounter Jesus. Messages are topically focused, filled with illustrations and relatable stories. The transforming yet simple message of the Gospel is preached on our kid’s level of understanding.

Wednesdays

Girls and boys, Kindergarten and up, are separated on Wednesdays for more targeted ministry. In these mentoring groups, our kids learn how to apply the message of the Bible to their personal lives and build Godly character. These groups are highly interactive, and often involve hands on activities related to their discussion focus.

Jr. High and Sr. High school students?

For your Jr. High and Sr. High school students (6th - 12th grades), EFA Youth Ministries is a powerful and exciting group with many activities. The Wednesday night services are dynamically life changing experiences for your student.

EFA Student Ministry is built around the desire to see students have true encounters with the living God and become fully-devoted followers of Jesus. We want to do more than teach or entertain. We aim to form real and lasting relationships with students that create an environment for true and lasting discipleship.

I want to grow in my relationship with Jesus

Adult Discipleship

Disciple – someone who is following Jesus, being changed by Jesus, and is committed to the mission of Jesus (Matt. 4:19)

Discipleship is important because we want people to become fully committed followers of Christ. Discipleship helps believers to grow in their faith, to grow in maturity and wisdom, and build their faith on a strong foundation so that they can then disciple and lead others towards Jesus.

At EFA, Sunday School exists to provide connection, instruction, and fellowship as you grow in your own walk with Christ. Our team of teachers pray, prepare and seek the direction of God for their classes , and would love to have you join them. Sunday school meets every Sunday Morning at 9 AM.

Do you have a women's ministry?

Anchored Women's Ministry

Anchored Women of EFA Ministry is to inspire, equip and support one another into a deeper relationship with God. To connect and walk in unity with one another. Proverbs 31:26 Her mouth is full of wisdom, kindly teaching is on her tongue.

What about the men?

Kingdom Warrior Men

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:13-14). Kingdom Warrior Men is a ministry of El Dorado First Assembly. Our purpose is to equip men to Learn, Lead, and Live as the Word of God instructs. Our strategy is to teach men to be strong and act like men with love as written in 1 Corinthians. We do this by LEARNING how to engage in the Word of God, prayer, worship, and understanding how to use the gifts of Holy Spirit. Kingdom Warriors Mens Ministry desires to equip men to LEAD our homes, churches, and this region in a true move of God. Discipleship is a key foundation in moving men from being church members into mighty warriors as they LIVE a Kingdom warrior lifestyle at home, church, and the marketplace. We desire all men to understand the love of the Father and how we as warriors can take the love of God to the lost and bring them to the family of God.

excellence is our pursuit

Excellence is our pursuit

2 Peter 1:3-123 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. (ESV), Titus 3:8The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people. (ESV)
generosity is our intentionality

Generosity is our intentionality

2 Corinthians 8: 2-3 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, (ESV)

Core Beliefs

Salvation

The doctrine of Salvation forms the core of our Christian faith by proclaiming God’s victory over sin in our lives. This truth results in deliverances, healings, and restored lives. Whether a new member or a mature Christian, every believer should have a clear understanding of salvation and the difference this truth makes in our lives and churches.

Divine Healing

Wherever Jesus went, He ministered with compassion and healed the sick. Christ’s example showed an interconnection with salvation as many believed following their healing.  Our Lord continues to heal today and it is vital that the church preach, teach, and practice this biblical truth. Scriptures command believers to pray in faith and trust God for the outcome.

Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The doctrine of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is our distinctive. This truth explains the passion and power of our witness. Jesus promised His followers they would receive power from on high so that they would be His witnesses. We believe this truth is just as relevant today as our Fellowship continues to take the gospel message around the globe.

The Second Coming

With the world experiencing natural disasters, economic downturns, and increasing uncertainties on many fronts, the doctrine of Christ’s Second Coming is more relevant than ever.  Believers must rest in the certainty of the imminent return of our Lord and share this hope with others.

Our 16 Fundamental Truths

Our 16 Fundamental Truths are non-negotiable tenets of faith that all Assemblies of God churches adhere to. Four of these, Salvation, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Divine Healing, and the Second Coming of Christ are considered Cardinal Doctrines (Core Beliefs) which are essential to the church's core mission of reaching the world for Christ.

Read our 16 Fundamental Truths

  1. The whole Bible is the inspired word of God. It is absolutely true from front to back and is our guide for our faith and our daily lives. (2 Tim. 3:15-17; 1 Thess. 2:13; 2 Peter 1:21)
  2. There is only one true God, the creator of Heaven and Earth and redeemer of mankind. The one true God has revealed Himself to man through the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Deut. 6:4; Isaiah 43:10, 11; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22)
  3. Jesus Christ is the Eternal Son of God. (Matthew 1:23; Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 2:22; Acts 2:22; 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4; Philippians 2:9-11)
  4. Man was created good and upright but chose a path of sin by yielding to temptation causing separation from God. (Genesis 1:26, 27; 2:17; 3:6; Romans 5:12-19)
  5. Our only hope of being saved from this separation from God is through repentance toward God and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ believing that He died on the cross as payment for our sin. (Luke 24:47; John 3:3; Romans 10:13-15; Ephesians 2:8; Titus 2:11; 3:5-7)
  6. We must be baptized by immersion in water as a testimony of the commitment we have made to Jesus Christ (Matthew 25:19; Mark 16:16; Acts 10:47, 48; Romans 6:4) and observe Communion to remember what Christ has done for us. (2 Peter 1:4; 1 Corinthians 26).
  7. All believers should be filled with the Holy Spirit and fire according to the command of Christ so that we will have the power to be witnesses and to faithfully live according to God's will. (Acts 1:4,8; 1 Cor. 12:1-31)
  8. The evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. (Acts 2:4; 1 Cor. 12:4-10,28).
  9. We must live a life set apart and separate from all that is evil and live dedicated to God. (Romans 12:1, 2; 1 Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 13:12)
  10. We should be an active part of a church with a mission to bring the message of Christ to others locally and around the world. (Mark 16:15-20; Acts 4:29-31; Hebrews 2:3, 4)
  11. God divinely calls people to be in special areas of church leadership and evangelism, worship and building up the people of the church. (Ephesians 4:11)
  12. Jesus still heals today just as He did when He walked the Earth (Isaiah 53:4, 5; Matthew 8:16, 17; James 5:14-16)
  13. Jesus promised when He left Earth that He would return to get those who believed in Him and He always Keeps His promises. (1 Thesselonians 4:16, 17; Romans 8:23; Titus 2:13; 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52)
  14. After Jesus' return, we will rule with Him on Earth for 1000 years. (Zech. 14:5; Matt. 24:27, 30; Revelation 1:7; 19:11-14; 20:1-6)
  15. There will be a final judgment where all those who never accepted Christ as savior will be sentenced to Hell. (Matt. 25:44; Mark 9:43-48; Rev. 19:20; 20:11-15; 21:8)
  16. After the thousand years and the final judgment, Jesus will recreate the earth to perfection as He did in the beginning for those who were faithful to Him until the end and they will live in this paradise forever. (2Peter 3:13; Rev. 21:22)

OUR HISTORY AND HERITAGE

First Assembly of God El Dorado AR

First building at Spring and Ross

The first Pentecostal message came to El Dorado in June of 1918. Brother Will Mack held a six week revival meeting. From this revival, a small group got together and purchased property at 1217 Ross Avenue. The first structure to be built was a small building with three rooms in the back. It was a fledgling work without a full-time pastor.

In 1921, the church was brought together by A.O. Williamson and Lou Williamson. The Full Gospel Mission of El Dorado was formed, and from these humble beginnings the church has had a continuous ministry in the city.

On October 24, 1924, the Full Gospel Mission of El Dorado affiliated with the General Council of the Assemblies of God with headquarters in Springfield, Missouri. The name of the church was later changed to First Assembly of God.

During the the following years of ministry, First Assembly of God has sent many people including: evangelists, pastors, missionaries, and musicians out to minister the Gospel. Our World Ministries giving and outreach has been listed among the best in the nation. The people have remained faithful and First Assembly of God has become one of the prominent Assemblies of God churches in the state. In 1928 and again in 1932, the fellowship was host to the District Council.

Second building at Spring and Ross

El Dorado First Assembly of God

Throughout our existence, we have had many stages of construction. A small building with a humble beginning, a basement for a few years, then a sanctuary was added. In 1958 and 1959 a new sanctuary was built. God then birthed a vision to build a new church on "Pistol Hill." In 1992, we moved into the new building at 2225 West Hillsboro. In 2004 we built a new ministry facility, adding more room for Sunday School Classes, Youth Programs, and various other ministries.

Through the years, many great men and women of God have ministered to be body of believers, some only known by God. They have all become our..."great cloud of witnesses."

"...one planted, one watered, but God gave the increase." 1 Corinthians 3:6

Today, we are located at 2225 W. Hillsboro. We understand El Dorado First Assembly is not a group of buildings, but people. We’re a family, and we invite you to find your home with us. We’re grateful for the past, but we know the best is yet to come!
