Tithes and Offerings - Kingdom Builders

Your generosity is changing lives

In one sense, giving is the very bedrock of our Christian faith - “For God so loved the world that he gave…(John 3:16). Such an act calls upon us to give generously for the glory of God, not to withhold from giving, but to give willingly, cheerfully, and sacrificially. As we practice tithing we will experience blessings in our life that we would not otherwise experience. For one, the practice of tithing or giving helps us grow in the Lord.

Generosity is a huge step of obedience. Trust God!

What is Tithing?

A tithe - which just means a "tenth" - is defined as the first 10% of a person's income that is to be given back to the local church. Tithing is a principle that is taught throughout the entire Bible. When we tithe, we are expressing worship in a tangible way by putting God first in our lives.

For many, the idea of bringing the first 10% of our income to the Church seems overwhelming. The thing is, it doesn't matter how much or how little we make, God promises to pour out blessings on us when we tithe. Tithing is about training our heart to trust God as His Word.

Why should I tithe?

Tithing reflects the heart.

What is the most important thing to you? Jesus said in Matthew 6:21 that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” We can see the reality of that in the world today and the exaltation of the financially successful, and more personally you can see that by looking at your own checkbook.

Malachi 3:10

Tithing is biblical.

Long before tithing was a practice of the Israelite people, Cain and Abel, the second generation of the human race, brought an offering to the Lord. The Lord blessed Abel's offering but rejected Cain's. Abel brought the "firstborn of his flock," while Cain brought "some of the fruits of the soil" as an offering. God wants to be first. The following Scriptures show how tithing is biblical.

Genesis 14:18-20 / Genesis 28:22 / Leviticus 27:30 / Deuteronomy 26:1-2

Tithing is a benefit.

God's kingdom is built upon multiplication, not division. God uses the tithe as an investment where everyone involved gets a return on the investment. Obviously, the church and the kingdom are blessed, and yet God's nature is to also bless the giver. This principle is highlighted in the passage below.

2 Chronicles 31:4-10
